I’m not good with words, but I have a pretty fucking good taste in music, so hopefully you find some new favorites through this column
Mono – Hymn to the Immortal Wind
Post-rock in all its lush, large, and crescendo-core glory. The 5th album by the Japanese outfit, and one of their best (For My Parents was equally impressive). Hymn to the Immortal Wind is arguably one of the mainstays of /mu/ essentials, and for good reason. The album is resplendent with more subtle textures than shoegaze, and more explosively drawn-out climaxed than any other post-rock band out there.
Ashes in the Snow, for example, slides quickly from orchestral ambience into an electrifying, almost unbearable, aural orgasm – don’t just take my word for it:
For me, this has to be one of the defining albums of post-rock. An absolute must-listen, and an essential record in any music lover’s collection.
